Gone are the days when you had to rely only on cash to make payments. The development of technology and the flagship campaign ‘Digital India’ run by the Government of India, whose main objective is to digitally empower India’s economy, which is based on faceless, paperless and cashless and to promote e-commerce business.
This resulted in the introduction of cashless transactions. The Government of India is taking several measures to promote and encourage cashless transactions. As a result of this effort, our dependence on cash transactions has greatly reduced after the introduction of various payment methods.
 These include use of debit/credit cards, internet banking, mobile wallets, digital payment apps, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), bank prepaid cards, mobile banking etc.
 Popular Payment Methods in India
All these methods are not only easy to use and convenient, but also very secure and provide the convenience of the customers to make payments from anywhere and anytime with the payment method as per their convenience.
 Following are the most commonly adopted payment methods by the people in India:-
1. Debit / Credit Card
 Debit/Credit banking cards are one of the most widely used payment methods in India and are used by customers for online and cashless offline payments. Visa, Rupay and MasterCard are some of the most popular and well-known card payment systems, making all types of online payments simple, easy and secure.
 Digital payment app or POS machine is used for online purchase, payment or transaction etc. through banking card. Many offers are provided to the customers when they buy or pay with the card, due to which it has become a popular method of payment among the people.
2. Paytm

 On any transaction through Google Pay, users get various rewards and offers including various cashback and scratch cards, discounts etc. You can also get cashback by referring your friends or family members.
 MobiKwik is an Indian online payment company that allows users to receive payments and transfer money. It is one of the largest digital mobile wallet in India.
 Which you can use to pay all the useful bills like mobile recharge, electricity, internet, DTH and online shopping, just consumers should have money in wallet. Users can use debit or credit cards to add money to the wallet. Its One Time Password (OTP) facility makes it a secure method of any kind of payment or transaction.
PhonePe is India’s first UPI-based payments app, which you can use to pay for any bill from utility bills, mobile and DTH recharges, sending and receiving money to paying your credit card bills and insurance premiums can.
All you need to do is to feed your bank account details and create a UPI ID. You can link your bank account with your PhonePe account to make transactions. You can also pay with PhonePe Wallet, Debit Card and Credit Card.
 There is no need to recharge the wallet here, as the money is directly debited from the user’s bank account. It is a very secure, fast and ideal way to make daily payments and fund transfers without any hassle.
 You can link your other existing e-wallets such as Jio Money, Airtel Money and others with the PhonePe app to seamlessly transfer money between these wallets. Amazon Pay
 Amazon Pay is a digital payment service offered to Amazon customers that allows customers to make purchases on third-party websites using payment methods and shipping information already linked to their Amazon account.
 Users can do online shopping as well as pay all kinds of useful bills, transfer money to anyone, etc. It keeps your transactions easy and secure and also lets you track everything from your Amazon account.
 You can also set up Amazon Pay UPI for UPI-based transactions by registering through the Amazon app. Amazon UPI services are provided by Axis Bank. It works well on mobile devices and provides a smooth experience.


 Towards transforming India into a cash-less society, there are various modes of digital payments available today, which promote cashless transactions. After demonetisation in India, people slowly started adopting digital payments and nowadays people are also using more than one online payment method.
